Through the Teachings of Malidoma and Sobonfu Somé & The Dagara
A five-month online course for anyone who senses there is something alive in their ancestry and wants a grounded, relational way to meet it. This course is not about borrowing the magic of another people. Every lineage has its own magic and what the Dagara tradition offers is a set of tools for finding it. Over five months, we learn those tools and use them to discover what is alive in your own ancestry and magic practices.
Uncovering the Magic in Your Own Lineage

These teachings come from Malidoma Somé, a Dagara elder who gave them with permission to the facilitator and to the world. Coby studied with Malidoma for 15 years, and with Sobonfu Somé for 12 years. He offers this course in that spirit of sharing, with ongoing reciprocity to Dagara communities. This course gives back 15% of the proceeds directly to the Dagara village for self-determined projects, such as building wells.

Earth: Grounding and Context
We begin with history, context, and how to approach spirit with good questions and good manners. You’ll learn how this work shows up across interconnected cultural ways, and why the earth is the grounding rod for everything that follows.Mineral: Memory and Genealogy

We learn the different kinds of water and how to work with each one. This unit is about grief, healing, nurturing, and wells, and about letting what has been held back finally move.Nature: The Little People and Nature Beings
We turn toward the more-than-human world and the beings who live in it, and learn how to be in respectful relationship with them.Fire: Ancestors and Ancestralization
We close with the ancestors themselves, and with the practice of ancestralization: how to tend your dead so they can become a source of support rather than unresolved weight. -

We approach this work through a ritual, co-liberatory, feminist lens. We will use texts like bell hooks The Will To Change and other Black Feminist literature as guiding documents in our discussions. We will also center spirit, care, sensuality, beauty, and the ancestors, and renegotiating the masculine’s relationship to power and leadership. Together we explore grief in all its forms: personal losses, ancestral patterns, collective trauma, and the unnamed sorrows we carry in our bones. Through ritual, somatic practice, and witnessing each other’s stories, we reimagine what masculine community can look like when we stop performing strength and start embodying wholeness.

Men’s Grief Group
A five-month circle for grief, care, and a different kind of masculine power
Men have been taught that grief is weakness, that tears are shameful, that emotional expression is “bad for business.” But unexpressed grief becomes violence, anger, and disconnection. This circle is a place for men to reclaim their full emotional range and heal the wounds that patriarchy inflicts on all of us.
